Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is performed in the office by a licensed provider. This minimally invasive procedure involves the administration of repeated micro punctures to the skin. These micro-injuries naturally induce collagen production and also allow for deeper absorption of topical treatments. Microneedling can be used to treat and smooth fine lines and wrinkles, decrease the appearance of acne scarring, minimize pores, repair sun damaged skin and improve skin's overall texture and appearance. Clients can expect firmer, brighter and smoother skin appearance. Microneedling can be done on multiple areas of the body. Most commonly, the procedure is done on the face and/or the neck or décolletage. The procedure is done in office; prior to starting, a topical anesthetic is applied to skin surface to increase comfort. An appointment will typically take approximately one hour to allow time for numbing agent to become effective. As a result of microneedling, the skin will appear reddened and erythematous, which is totally normal! This redness usually subsides within a few hours to one day, so factor this into your "downtime" planning. At KM MedAesthetics, we use the SkinPen, which is FDA approved and considered a "top of the line" device.
